louviá

λοuβιά

good luck from oklahoma [black eyed peas]

Black eyed peas, which grow well in hot climates and are more drought resistant than most. A staple of the Cypriot kitchen (they use the same words as the ancient Greeks).

In Greece itself, they're usually called μαυρομάτικα (mavrommátika), the most popular recipe is λοuβιά με λάχανα (louvía me láchana), a salad made with chard, olive oil, salt and lemon.; another popular summer salad mixes them with onion, dill and capers.

They are the main cultiver of cow peas, or ambelofásoula. They are also the main ingredient in the now-famous Blue Zone Ikarian longevity stew.
