flaoúna

φλαούνα

Flaounes halved - Warehouse Deli

Cypriot cheese pies (pilavuna in Turkish), flaoúnes are made with graviera, Anarí or haloumi, and often including raisins. Some are sweet, some are savoury.

Christians on Cyprus make them for Easter and the Muslims make them for Ramadan.

They also make flaoúnes on Mílos, and fill them with wild greens, raisins, spinach and rice.
