Venice is a maze, and the idea of an orienteering walk for charity down the lanes and over the bridges of Venice started in 1975, with 1750 participants, and was so much fun it grew to a massive 19,250 by the seventh one, attracting walkers of all ages and from all walks of life.
There are two routes: the main one runs for 12km and crosses over 40 bridges, and a shorter 6km route intended for school groups. Volunteers serve refreshments along the way and bands play.
Pick up a detailed map on the morning of the event in Piazza San Marco, the train station or Tronchetto car park.
