Francesco Maffei (c. 1600–60) was an unorthodox, somewhat dissonant painter from Vicenza who visited Venice in 1638 and was inspired by Lys and Strozzi. His scenes are full of life, with brush strokes that seem to shimmer in the style of Sebastiano Ricci.
The Guardian Angel in Santi Apostoli is his masterpiece, as well as his works in the Ca' Rezzonico.
