cicerchiata

a ring of tiny doughnuts

This favourite carnival treat takes its name from grass peas, or cicerchia, because that's what the little balls of deep fried dough resemble (similar to struffoli or purcedruzzi). They are often mixed with nuts and dried fruit, then piled into shapes (often a ring), drenched with honey then eaten in slices.

Also spelled cicerchie.
