Delizie ('delights') is a broad category in dessert land, but special mention must be made of the best known of all Italian delicacies— the tangy delizie al limone from the Amalfi coast, invented in 1978 by pastry chef Carmine Marzuillo: little breast-shaped sponge and custard cakes made with a freight train full of lemon, lemon zest, limoncello, eggs, cream and butter.
