Cornelian cherry (or European cornel) is native to Southern Europe, and thrives around Dráma in Eastern Macedonia. The fruit is made into jams but also boiled in water, then added to ouzo or brandy to create a unique sweet-sour cherry liqueur (Λικέρ Κράνα, liqueur Krána).
In Dráma they also make similar drinks with mint and plums.
