Breads

5th century BC terracotta baker, Tanagra

Greeks bake up a wide range of breads or Ψωμιά (psomia) include the wide range of sweet and savoury loaves in all shapes and sizes. A number of breads, such as Prosphoron, Gamokouloura and Christopsomo are made for special occasions, but there's something holy even about ordinary bread. Some people, if they drop a piece of bread on the floor, will kiss it and feed it to the birds, rather than put it in the bin.
