Fleur de pissenlit

The French name for dandelion, pissenlit ‘piss in bed’ derives from the reputed diuretic results from eating the young leaves either boiled or in a salad. They are full of vitamins and antioxidants.

Other names in French are dent-de-lion and couronne de moine.

Useful expression

If someone says Il mange les pissenlits par la racine ‘he’s eating dandelions by the root’ it means he’s pushing up the daisies!
