Venison Steaks 29,80 p/kg @ Baars Poelier, Markt Rotterdam. Venison can be a little bit tough, but these turn out brilliantly tender and flavoursome.

Venaison sounds like venison and so it is, but it can also mean wild boar (both are also called viande de gibier, or haute venaison or viande noire —dark meat— because of its high iron content).

It can also mean hare and some game birds such as quail, although these are usually called basse venaison.
