Like the British Venice in Peril, New York-based Save Venice Inc (originally the Venice Committee of the International Fund for Monuments), is one of the UNESCO-administered groups dedicated to preserving and restoring the city's art and architecture, but as budgets go it's the big daddy of all Venice charities. Founded in 1971, it works in collaboration with the Venetian Superintendencies of Monuments, Fine Arts and Museums
Save Venice Inc has raised millions to fund the restoration over 400 works so far, including enormous projects such as the church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli and the facade of the Scuola Grande di San Marco. Current efforts included the church of San Sebastiano, Tintoretto's painting of St Martial in Glory in San Marziale, and the Choir Books in the St Mark's; next projects are to focus on the mosaic floor of the Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta on Torcello.
