This started off as a conventual church of Augustinian nuns, originally from Treviso, who had fled to the lagoon in the 14th century from the Hungarian army of King Lajos I, who was fighting the Venetians over the rule of Dalmatia. The church burned in a fire and was rebuilt in the 18th century by Domenico Rossi; Napoleon suppressed it and it became a sugar factory, with a chimney running up its campanile, before becoming a brick factory. It was restored in 1952, but is hardly ever open.
