Gabriel Bella

Chronicler of Venice's 18th century

Frozen lagoon in the Querini Stampalia, 1708

Gabriel Bella (1730–99) was Venice’s charming naïve painter of city scenes, a valuable source of information about the 18th century despite his technical ineptitude. Other that, no one knows anything about him.

Sixty-six of his best works are in the Fondazione Querini-Stampalia.
