Giambattista Pittoni
Your typical 18th-century Venetian painter
A native of Venice, Giambattista Pittoni (1687–1767) spent most of his career in Venice and its terra firma, painting large richly coloured, highly mannered religious scenes and mythologies (some of his earliest works are in San Stae).
Over the years, following the lead of Tiepolo and Ricci, he painted with an increasingly light palette. Other works in Venice include a ceiling in Cà Pesaro, and paintings in the Museo Diocesano in Sant' Apollonia and Santa Maria Assunta.
