Scarpagnino
Nickname of Antonio Abbondi
Architect Antonio Abbondi, better known as Lo Scarpagnino (died 1549) was born in Lombardy but spent most of his career in Venice. His first project was the reconstruction of the Fondaco dei Tedeschi, and after a massive fire seriously damaged the Rialto in 1514, he was put in charge of the delicate task of reconstruction. His most important project was the Palazzo dei Dieci Savi.
He also rebuilt San Giovanni Elemosinario, built the churches of San Sebastiano and Santo Spirito and designed the upper floor of the Scuola di San Rocco.
