Fondamenta Savorgnan
Palazzo Savorgnan and the Ponte delle Guglie
Heading southeast along the Canale di Cannaregio, the Fondamenta Savorgnan approaches the vast 17th-century Palazzo Savorgnan, Venetian headquarters of a Friulian dynasty of great wealth and impeccable service to the Republic, with a small, quiet public garden.
South of this is the very busy Ponte delle Guglie (1580, named after the four obelisks, or ‘needles’ on its parapets), with a row of masks for gondoliers to enjoy. Over the bridge, Rio Terrà S. Leonardo is often crowded with market stalls.
