La polta, a one course meal from the pretty village that gave us the parents of the pop star Madonna involves cooking chopped cabbage, potatoes and beans separately, and then frying them together in olive oil with garlic and chilis.

The annual Sagra della Polta takes place on a weekend in mid August.
