pizza fritta

fried pizza

Fried Pizza at "Antica Pizzeria d'e' Figliole / from 1860" in Naples

Naples with its many street food friggitorie naturally thought of frying the local speciality, although it's not a pizza in batter, but more like a fried calzone, often with tomato sauce and ricotta inside Also available in pizzerias.

Plain pizze fritte, thick and fluffy or thin and crispy, are also popular in Abruzzo, especially with arrosticini.
