Prosecco

bubbly from the Veneto

Italy claims to make more sparkling wines than any country in the world, and Prosecco is one of the best. Made in the Veneto from Prosecco or Glera grapes (main producers are Valdobbiadene and Conegliano, in the province of Trevizo), it comes either dry or extra dry, and either frizzante or spumante and is best drunk within a year or two of bottling.

It's the essential ingredient of a Bellini (along with puréed peaches), the world-renowned cocktail invented at Harry's Bar in Venice in 1934.
