Rustici (singular rustico) originally meant any sort of savoury tart or pie (see rustico). Now though, it also provides a name for a new fashion in Italy: a range of small antipasti filled with meat, cheese or vegetables, including sausage rolls, cornetti or rolls made into small sandwiches, miniature tramezzini, millefeuille tarts, or chiocciole, a filling rolled in a sheet of puff pastry, sliced to form spiral shapes, and then baked. They might also be savoury bigné (beignets, or fritters).
