Panelle or paneddi (singular panella) are a popular snack in Sicilian street markets. They're part of the Arab influence in Sicilian cooking, though unlike falafel they're made from chick pea flour rather than ground chick peas. Sometimes they are stuffed in bread (pane e panelle) and flavoured with parsley.
A panella can also be a round whole wheat loaf of bread.
