Native to southern Europe, corniolo (Cornus Mas) is the Cornelian cherry or European cornel, the slightly tart fruit of the dogwood tree, with a flavour similar to sour cherries or cranberries.
It's used in drinks, sweets, preserved in alcohol, or used to make vinegar in rural areas; also used to make a salsa di corniolo for boiled meats in Lombardy. Also spelled corniòla.
