Similar to a big red mullet, this popular fish (Triglia lucerna) is also known as coccio in Campania, cocciu in Calabria, luzerna in the Veneto and Friuli, and cappone, capone gallinella or capone in Lazio and Abruzzo.

To add to the confusion, a gallinella can also be a moorhen.

Other names include:

Friuli: Anzolèto, Anzolèto grosso, Anzolitto

Liguria: Cheuffano, Cheusano, Cheussano, Fanale, Gallinetta, Lanterna, Pesce organo

Marche: Capomazzo, Mazzola, Testa grossa, Testolina dall'occhio

Puglia: Angiuletto, Anziletto, Cuòcceche, Còcceche, Angelette, Angiulino, Cuoccio, Testa, Rendenedda de mare

Sardinia: Baladora, Rundini di mari, Fagiani, Gallinedda

Sicily: Cocciu, Cocci, Farciuni, Fasciàni, Sfasgiàni impiriali, Fusciani, Pisci-farciùni, Faciàna, Faggiani impiriali, Pesce vendemme, Rinninuni di mari, Rinninuni
