Means the same as ripieni. As in stuffed calamari and totani, stuffed peppers and tomatoes, artichokes, mushrooms, courgette blossoms etc. Italian stuffings are not always very adventurous: bread crumbs, garlic, parsley, and such.
Pane or panino imbottito is a sandwich.
