bakaliáros

μπακαλιάρος

Hake (Gadus Merluccius) illustration from The Natural History of British Fishes (1802) by Edward Donovan (1768-1837). Digitally enhanced from our own original edition.

Hake (Merluccius merluccius). A much appreciated local fish, although Greek menus are known to call it ‘cod’ in English (which has a very similar name, bakaláos).

Hake is usually fried or baked, and served with skordalia.
