'Submarine' is a spoon sweet (often vanilia) but they come in all flavours (mastic, rose, cherry, etc), submerged in a glass of cold water, that you slowly lick off between dips in the water.
In the old days, when enterprising kafeníon owners translated υποβρύχιο literally into English, you wonder how many naval procurement officers were keenly disappointed with their order.
