Venacu, Veneco or Venachese is a strong, rustic square cheese with an orangish rind, made from raw milk of sheep and/or goats, traditionally made in sheepfolds in the summer when the flocks are in their mountain pastures. It is available all year and usually consumed affiné on the cheese board.
A good place to find it is at Venaco’s Corsican cheese fair, A Fiera di u Casgiu, that takes place every April.
