Kiwis were introduced to France in Nice in 1904, but it wasn’t until 1965 that they were acclimatized, on the initiative of arborist Henri Pedelucq. Born in 1926 in Peyrehorade, he experimented with various exotic fruits in his hometown and found that the hardiest and happiest was the kiwi.
Today the Adour valley produceds25% of France’s kiwis, and they are the only ones rated IGP and Label Rouge.
