Any pearl-shaped food, the most common being perhaps Perles du Japan. These are little tapioca balls that turn almost transparent in soup, resembling fish eggs.
They are also used in bubble tea and desserts; you’ll usually find them next to the chapelure (bread crumbs) in the supermarché.
Perles du Médoc are grapes soaked in alcohol, covered with chocolate.
