Queen Claude was the wife of François I, who was given a greengage tree by the ambassador of Suleyman the Magnificent.
Although her life was very short (she was only 25 when she died, in 1524) she was at least immortalized in one of the country’s favourite summer fruits, and by being the only woman ever to be the daughter, wife, mother and grandmother of a king of France.
