cassis

black currant

Thésée-la-Romaine (Loir-et-Cher)

Most of the black currants in France get transformed into the sweet liqueur crème de cassis, but you can usually find them in the shops in season. For decades they were banned in the USA because of the belief that they spread a bad fungus, but they have since been found not guilty and are legal again.
