Kougelhopf or kougelhopf in Alsace, or Gugelhupf in German, Kouglof is a light, airy yeast cake baked in a special spiral fluted mould. It usually comes plain, flavoured with vanilla and lemon zest, or chocolate, or marbled vanilla and chocolate. Some contain dried fruit or nuts or Kirsch.
