You often see bigorneaux or winkles on seafood platters, especially in Brittany, with the special tiny forks you need to ‘winkle’ them out of their shells.
Other less common names for the little creatures include brelin, berlingaou, bigorne, borgau, borlicocos, brigaud, caricole, cagouille, littorine, escargot de mer, farin, guignette, pharin and vignot.
