chard

Blette is chard, usually Swiss chard. Other names include bette, bette à carde, bette à tondre, bette à côte, côte de bettes, jotte or joute, or poirée.

One of the most famous French chard dishes, tourte aux blettes, comes from Nice, where chard is considered the national vegetable.
