Jacopo da Sellaio

Master of the Wedding Chests

Banchetto di Assuero, in the Uffizi

Florentine Jacopo da Sellaio (c. 1441–1493) trained alongside Botticelli under Fra Filippo Lippi. He specialized in devotional paintings and cassoni, the wedding chests that held a bride's dowry; panels from one, the Banchetto di Assuero, is in the Uffizi, although most of the others have gone off to collections around the world.

His best work in the area is up in Fiesole's Museo Bandini, but also see San Frediano in Cestello and his Madonna in the Loeser Collection in the Palazzo Vecchio.
