Giuseppe Panini, one of the founders of Modena's Edizione Panini publishing dynasty and older brother of Umberto, accumulated the biggest museum collection in Modena. The Paninis printed books and comic books, but they made their real money from stickers and collectors' cards (figurine in Italian).
Giuseppe's mad passion for these led to the Museo della Figurina, housed since 2006 in the Palazzo Santa Margherita and now part of the Fondazione Modena Arti Visive (FMAV), which uses the building for special exhibitions.
The permanent collection holds y a choice selection of Panini's half a million cigarette cards and every other kind of collectors’ cards, going back to the 1860's, as well as matchboxes, menus, calendars, and no less than 43,000 19th-century letter seals.
