If any hotel in Barcelona fits Baudelaire's idyllic description in his l'Invitation au voyage, it's this five-star sophisticated beauty on the peaceful slopes of Tibidabo. Once the home of Madronita Andreu and her second husband, American Max Klein, it would briefly serve as the American embassy in Spain at the tail end of the Spanish Civil war.
Their home, a listed historic monument, and adjacent building were combined in 2008 and made into a 15-room boutique hotel, and a Michelin star restaurant.
