Languedoc-Rousillon

The 'Other' South of France, Languedoc-Roussillon is a delicious dose of Mediterranean conviviality and landscapes, of olives, vines and cypress trees, sleepy wine villages and buzzing cities such as Montpellier and Nîmes. Extending from the river Rhône to Spain, the region encompasses some of France’s most iconic sights: the Pont du Gard, the walled medieval towns of Carcassonne and Aigues-Mortes, Gothic and Romanesque abbeys, precipitous Cathar castles teetering in the clouds, lagoons filled with pink flamingos, the artists’ towns of Collioure and Céret, and long sandy beaches. It’s a great place to be as lazy or as active as you like, whether you take a slow cruise down the idyllic Canal du Midi, go wine tasting in the Corbières, trek through the Pyrenees, or kayak down the majestic Gorges du Tarn.
